Freakshow fights that you should probably watch
In an effort to bring you the most entertaining and obscure literature/fights you'll probably ever come across on mma sites, I've decided to stray away from the norm and review/preview one freakshow fight that you should probably(definitely) watch(or rewatch) each week.
Throughout these articles we'll go over upcoming freakshow fights, and those of the past that captured our hearts and imaginations as young budding MMA fans.
For our first edition we're going to turn the clocks back to the year 1995.
Paul Varleans vs. Cal Worsham
It was a hot summer night in Casper Wyoming and the UFC was about to run its sixth tournament. The brackets featured some polished vets and returning killers in Tank Abbott and Oleg Taktarov, along with the Superfight of the century between Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn. However in my honest opinion, the gem on this card and the real banger of the night was a 62 second scrap for the ages between a man appropriately named 'the polar bear', and a man half his size that absolutely loved Jesus, both of whom were also making their mixed martial art and promotional debut.
Varleans, a master in the art of trap fighting(you bait your opponent, trap them, and then destroy them) squared off against a man of few words, but many actions in Worsham. Worsham standing at only 5' 10'' was dwarfed by the much larger near 7 foot polar bear, and as if the height disadvantage was not enough, he gave up nearly 60 pounds to his mammoth of an opponent. QSM~!
